5 Cities to Explore in Europe When Traveling with Kids

Who says traveling to Europe with young children isn't a fantastic idea?

In the words of Rick Steves, America's go-to expert on European travel, exploring Europe with kids allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture and truly experience the continent like a European, not just a tourist.

And let's be honest, who wouldn't want that? Sure, traveling with little ones can present its own set of challenges, but with a little planning and flexibility, it can be a journey filled with unforgettable memories.

As you plan your itinerary, consider what your children are learning in school or what piques their interest. Europe is a treasure trove of adventure, offering endless opportunities for exploration in every city you visit.

Get ready for an epic family adventure like no other. Here are 5 Cities to Explore in Europe When Traveling with Kids!

1. Paris

Paris is not just for romantics in the spring. It's a city for everyone, with boulangeries on every corner, making it the perfect time for a pain au chocolate!

Navigating the city is a breeze with the Metro, and you can catch glimpses of the Eiffel Tower from various viewpoints. Take a fun and exciting Bateaux Bus ride along the Seine to explore the amazing sites of Paris. With plenty of parks, like Jardin Luxembourg, kids can have a blast racing peddle cars, sailing toy boats, and enjoying zip lines and an Eiffel Tower bungee.

Make the Louvre visit enjoyable by downloading a treasure hunt online. For an active experience, climb the 1,600+ stairs of the Eiffel Tower or opt for a shorter climb up the Arc de Triomphe. Don't miss the magical twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower every night. And, of course, try a delicious street-side crepe before bidding Paris farewell!

Bon Voyage!

2. Amsterdam

The Netherlands, particularly Amsterdam, is one of Europe's best destinations for family travel.

There's something for everyone, from zoos to historical squares and lively markets. Amsterdam offers exciting museums like NEMO for young scientists and the Anne Frank Museum for older children. Art lovers can explore famous museums showcasing works by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Vermeer.

Enjoy paddle boats and bike paths throughout the city, and don't forget to try the special Dutch treat of "patat-met" (French fries with a special mayo-style sauce). In spring, a day trip to Keukenhof to see the blooming tulips is a must, and take a photo in front of a Dutch windmill.

Proost!

3. Rome

Rome is where gladiators meet gelato, and it's a fantastic city for kids!

Visit the ancient ruins of the Colosseum, Pantheon, and Roman Forum to bring history to life. The Vatican may be more appealing to adults, but kids should definitely look up to Michelangelo's masterpiece in the Sistine Chapel.

Make a wish by throwing coins into Trevi Fountain, and indulge in delicious pizza at a traditional Italian pizzeria. Explore the maze of ancient ruins in the old harbor city of Ostia Antica for a break from the city.

Buon viaggio!

4. London

London is a city filled with beloved fictional characters, real-life royalty, and captivating castles.

There are numerous free and educational attractions, such as the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. Enjoy St. James Park, witness the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and watch the pelicans being fed.

Experience London's iconic transportation options, like black cabs, double-decker buses, and the Tube. Don't miss Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and a visit to Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studios Tour if you're a fan.

Cheers!

5. Barcelona

Barcelona is a city where Gaudi's unique works create a Seuss-like atmosphere.

Shop at the lively Boqueria market and explore the unfinished masterpiece of Sagrada Familia. The Chocolate Museum offers sweet treats and souvenirs, while the CosmoCaixa and the Museum of Ideas and Inventions spark imaginations. Thrill-seekers can go shark cave diving at the Oceanarium.

End your day with a relaxing walk along Las Ramblas, enjoying tapas along the way. And don't forget to witness the stunning illuminated dancing fountains at the Fountain of Montjuic.

Hasta La Vista!

Traveling with kids is not only possible but also incredibly rewarding. So, get ready to pack your bags, gather your little explorers, and set off on an unforgettable journey filled with laughter, learning, and endless memories.

From the charming streets of Paris to the captivating canals of Amsterdam, the ancient wonders of Rome, the royal charm of London, and the whimsical beauty of Barcelona, each city has its own unique treasures waiting to be discovered.
